Meet some of the Valencia CF players who have competed in the U-21 European Championship with Spain
Juan Mata and César Tárrega, the most recent scorers in this prestigious international tournament
This weekend's game against RCD Mallorca evokes some fond memories for one of Valencia CF's recent incorporations. Manu Vallejo scored a goal against the side from the Balearics that had a tremendous impact on his career, just over a year ago.
It came in preseason for his former club, Cádiz. They had looked to their academy for attacking reinforcements, and Vallejo -who had been playing in the Tercera División- was chosen to prove his worth.
Of the five goals that he scored as the club's most prolific marksman before the Segunda División season got underway, the one against Mallorca was the most important. It came off the back of a strike as a substitute against Elche, and this time around he was a starter being groomed for the first team. His parents were in attendance -a rarity with how busy they are in their bat in Chiclana de la Frontera- and provided him with a boost in confidence: Seven minutes in, he found the net.
Since then, he had his contract renewed, earned a spot in the first team, was signed by Valencia CF and became Cadiz' top scorer with 10 goals. He was called up for the Spain Under-21s for the European Championship. Now, he has a chance to make his debut against RCD Mallorca with his new club.
